Georgia Fermeli was born in Athens. She holds a B.Sc. in Geology from the Faculty of Geology of the University of Patras and a Ph.D. in the Geological Sciences from the School of Mining and Metallurgical Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens. She held appointments as Postdoc in the Geosciences at the University of Vienna and the Museum of Natural History of Vienna, and, as Postdoc in Geological Heritage and didactics and assessment of Geology-Geography and Environmental Education at the Faculty of Geology and Geoenvironment of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. She has also attended specialized workshops on environmental subjects at the University of Zaragoza (Spain) and Palermo (Italy).
For a number of years, she was Consultant A΄ in the field of the Natural Sciences at the Institute of Educational Policy and she also was a Board Member of the Institute. He has experience in the History and Didactics of the Environmental and geological Sciences, and in the development of Curricula and supporting educational and training materials. During her career, she repeatedly had the responsibility of coordinating and managing more than thirty national and international competitive research programs in subjects of relevance to her scientific interests.
In the context of her studies and her professional career, she received scholarships from the Greek State Scholarships Foundation, the Ministry of Research and Science of Austria, the Academy of Sciences of Austria etc. For her scientific contribution to the Geosciences she has been honored by the Academy of Athens.
